A Plan To Lose Weight

This revolutionary and simple weight-loss program is based on many studies which have found a link to television viewing and obesity in both men and women. The American Journal of Public Health, for example, has found that people who watched three or more hours of television per day are almost twice as likely to be obese than people who watched less than one hour per day.



Almost any activity will burn more calories than TV

If you want to lose weight, the first program you should try is this simple, revolutionary, push-button program. Push that power button to OFF and automatically you will start burning more calories. Why? Because almost any other activity burns more calories than watching TV. Specific weight loss results will naturally be determined by which activities you do instead of watching TV. Watching TV burns only a few more calories than sleeping. Almost any other activity burns more calories. Talking on the phone, reading a book, doing the dishes—all burn more calories than watching television. With the national average of four hours per day, the extra calories burned just by turning off the TV will add up quickly. Plus, there are many benefits to this simple program that you will not find in any other weight-loss program.

Since the average American watches four hours of TV per day, spending one of those hours outdoors will be a easy. And one of the easiest, simplest ways to burn more calories is to go outside and play. Take a walk. Play with your kids. Toss a football. Kick a soccer ball. Shoot hoops with your buddies. Enjoy life. You will be having so much fun that you won't even notice that you are burning calories.

A Plan To Lose Weight
Gastric bypass surgery is a lifesaver for a lot of people as obesity continues to sweep across much of the western world but its greatest problem is to be found in the fact that a significant number of people either fail to lose sufficient weight following surgery or go on to put back much of the weight that is lost initially.

Of course there are several explanations for this failure to lose weight or to regain weight and at the top of the list in without doubt the fact that too many people simply find it too difficult to make the lifestyle changes necessary following surgery and eat themselves back into obesity. However, researchers have now identified a genetic component that could explain some individual's failure to lose weight following a gastric bypass.

In a recent study involving in excess of 700 morbidly obese patients blood samples were tested for two single nucleotide polymorphisma (SNPs). In layman's terms a SNP is a sequence of human DNA, variations in the pattern of which could indicate the way in which individuals will develop diseases and also respond to such things as drugs and vaccines. Without going into the details of this study which are more than a little complicated, the researchers concluded that approximately 20% of those examined showed a combination of specific SNPs that indicate that they are at risk of not simply failing to lose weight following weight loss surgery, but may actually be at risk of gaining weight.

The difficulty we face now is not mainly that of finding a solution for those individuals who suffer from obesity, but of stopping obesity to start with and this is essentially a question of education. There is no doubt that a minority of individuals are susceptible to obesity and genetics and other similar factors may play a role in this. Nevertheless, by far the majority of the obesity which we these days arises out of nothing more than poor eating habits and a failure to take enough exercise.

However, the real problem is that when people have reached it is simple human nature to try to find any reason for their obesity that takes away that guilty feeling brought on by the fact that they may just have caused the problem themselves. Now what better excuse can you hand someone than to tell them that their weight problem is genetic.

This is not to say that research into SNPs is not valid or to say that there is no genetic component to the failure to lose weight or to gain weight following weight loss surgery. However, the danger lies in releasing this information at too early a stage in the research process and simply handing individuals another excuse for not doing something about their obesity at a time at which obesity is at epidemic proportions and most worrying of all is increasingly being found in children at earlier and earlier ages.

Scientific research is vital and needs to be given its place in the scheme of things but we have to be careful that it does not divert us from the need to tackle obesity by educating individuals to alter their eating habits and to take enough exercise.
