In order to grow a successful career in auto sales, you must possess a practical and utilitarian mindset and really excel in closing deals quickly. You must be a team player and ready to accept responsibility for your work. All of this and more fuel the success level of an auto salesperson. But before all else, you must decide upon the brand that motivates the salesman in you. It should be one that you are passionate about, because you need to enjoy every moment of your work.
Your Job Search
Look around for an opportunity with a dealership in the brand you are passionate about. Get to know about the products in detail, so that you can be honest and professional as a representative of the company. At many dealerships, they conduct personality tests as a standard step in the hiring process, to enable management to hire only the best. These tests are also a help to the new person, since they are able to identify their strengths and weaknesses and improve on them.
Once you are sure about the manufacturer and dealership that suits your personality, put in your application for a job. Prepare thoroughly for the interview and make sure that you ask management the right questions when the opportunity arises. Ask questions about training, such as the duration and initial pay scale. Also check the policy on performance appraisals and what management considers to be quality traits of a top performer. Request that the Sales Manager allow you to be a part of a sales meeting or watch a sale being conducted by an experienced salesperson. These are of immense benefit to help you understand what you actually need to do in the routine course of your job as an auto salesperson.
Learn About The Product
After landing the job, you need to be thorough with the intricate details of the product(s) that you will be selling. So get acquainted by observation, ask the right questions and read all available information on the products. One good way to do this is to go through the brochures. Take them home and go through them in detail. Remember that your job is to sell and this requires specific selling skills and thorough product knowledge. Your pitch has to be convincing and interesting enough to excite the customer to buy the product. Your product is technology oriented, but you should use specific jargon only if the customer is tech savvy.
Though your early earnings in auto sales may not be up to your expectations, with time, persistence and as your knowledge grows, you will be able to earn very large commissions.
A Plus Auto Sales
Do you follow a set script when you get ready to sell a car? Successful car salespersons will often use the same pattern - or script - over and over and close the deal every time. Analyze the steps you take to make a sale. You greet the customer when they enter the dealership. You talk to them and build up a rapport with them. You listen to - or investigate - their particular needs in an effort to help them get the right vehicles for their needs. You give them a brief rundown of the vehicle's features and then present a more detailed explanation of its features as you look at it. You work through your customers objections. You close the sale.
HmmI think I might need a script
If you sit down and work out a script in your head of how you will handle each of these different steps, you are going to find that your sale pitch is easier to give. You will not stammer, you will be able to handle every situation that arrives when you are in the middle of the sale, and you will find that your professionalism and confidence is stronger than ever. With a script, even if you are new to the auto sales business, you will be able to maintain your composure and act accordingly.
You should include
How do you like to sell? Do you have a particular style? Then make sure that you utilize your particular style of selling when you work on your script. Start out with an engaging introduction that offers your customer's your name. By introducing yourself you are opening up a dialogue between you and them and get's them to open up by offering you their name as well.
The next thing you want to add to your script is a way of building a rapport between you and your customer. Small talk is a great way to engage your new friends and by using some common sense and common ground, you can get your customers to open up and feel relaxed about buying a car from you. Use a common topic such as sports or pets to banter with your customers and get them feeling good about being there. You can then move the conversation into their needs and what they are looking for in the new vehicle they want to buy.
Finally, remember to remain professional and polite through your interaction with your customer. Being courteous and upbeat during the process will leave an impression on them and they will be willing to finalize the sale.
