A real Christmas tree never fails to delight me, however it is decorated. I prefer the hodge podge of Christmas Past with Christmas ornaments that I have collected for years but the one thing you need to make it special is that is has to be a real Christmas tree and it needs lots of twinkling Christmas lights.

Christmas is my favorite time of year. I love the family time when everyone gears down a bit and just enjoys being together and making each other happy. I am fortunate to live where real Christmas trees are plentiful, you can easily go out to the Christmas tree farms and choose and cut your own live tree. Even though it is easy we are usually rushing around too much to take the time to do that so we buy our real Christmas tree at a tree lot and while I’m there I try to pick up some fresh Christmas garland and a wreath. You have to have a van or a truck to haul your tree home unless you can tie it on your car. By the time you get it home you are usually too tired to decorate the Christmas tree.

To save the trouble of doing this every year we tried an artificial tree for a few years but it just wasn’t the same as having a real Christmas tree. It didn’t have a good fresh pine smell and no one got very excited over it, so we have decided to go back to having a real Christmas tree and real Christmas garland. After all, Christmas only comes one time a year so you might as well enjoy it.

It was still a hassle putting up a real Christmas tree until we decided to buy a different tree stand. We had one of the old type stands that never fit the bottom of the tree so you had to saw half the tree off to make it fit and then you had to screw the bolts into the tree so it would be straight. Our tree was never straight until we bought one of the sturdy, easy to set up stands with a predrilled base so we could easily set the real Christmas tree up straight. This saved a lot of arguments in our household, and it was well worth the money we spent on the Christmas tree stand.

I live in a rural area and I can’t imagine living in the city, but I bet the people that live there like real Christmas trees too.
