Another type anxiety medication used to treat generalized anxiety disorders or GADs, are azipirones, things such as Buspirone.

On the other hand the most common types of anxiety medication used to treat panic attacks are Etrafon, Triavil and Limbitrol. For obsessive and compulsive disorders the anxiety medication of choice is Clomipramine, and for symptoms of phobias Inderol is usually recommended.

Some commonly used antidepressants are also effective as anxiety medication and they help curing many anxiety disorders. Selective serotonin uptake inhibitors such as fuoxetine, fluvoxamine, sertraline, paroxetine, and citalopram are also anxiolytic and that is why they can also be used as anxiety medication. Tranylcypromine and isoprocarboxazid are also common monoamine oxidase inhibitors used to control most anxiety disorders. Phenelzine can be used in cases of panic disorder and social phobias.

Using anxiety medication actually helps rectify the chemical imbalances that occur in the human brain. But just like any other type of medication, anxiety medication should only be taken under the guidance of an expert physician. You need also to be wary of the side effect the antidepressants have. Also some anxiety medication types will cause the body to build up tolerance to them thus requiring a continuous increase in dosage.
