Have you seen the movie ?The Secret' yet? Hopefully, you have at least heard of it. It is the #1 movie on USA Today and Amazon.com and books related to the movie litter the top 20. The cast of the Secret was on the Oprah show a couple weeks ago, which was her most popular show to date. Typically, she gets about 2 million website hits after a show but this one earned her 5 million!
The Law of Attraction
If you have not seen it or heard much about it here is a synopsis. The movie features interviews with some of the top people in the self-help world. The Secret is that you can have anything that you want. The premise of the movie is based on ?the law of attraction'. This, according to the cast, is the ability to call opportunities to yourself by focusing your thoughts on what you want.
The movie promotes the idea that if you want a new job, more money, better health ? you need to constantly think about those things and they will come to you. Essentially, you get what you focus on. The movie also warns that this is true for the negative aspects of life as well ? more debt, more problems, more stress will come your way if that's what you decide to think about.
Whether or not this is true is beyond anyone's ability to prove or disprove. I do know that there is a lot about our universe that we don't understand and I try not to discount possibilities simply because I can not understand how they can be true. In fact, I believe that to do so is arrogant.
Still, even if you accept the law of attraction and begin to focus on what you want ? there is a missing piece of the puzzle that was mentioned in the movie but was not emphasized enough. That is the need for ACTION. Even if you have the ability to call opportunities to yourself, if you don't act on those opportunities nothing will happen.
The Brain's Filter A part of the brain called the hippocampus is largely responsible for what we decide to focus on in our environment. We are constantly filtering out the majority of the stimuli that comes our way and only paying attention to that which we deem important in that moment. To me, this can explain much of The Secret.
For instance, if you continually focus on problems and stress, you will find those things in your environment that support your negative viewpoint ? and this will produce more problems and stress. If instead, you constantly think about specific opportunity, you will focus on things that come your way that support this positive viewpoint ? you will notice when opportunity comes knocking.
Whether or not you have the ability to create opportunity as proposed by The Secret, doesn't really matter. You still have to focus on opportunity in order to notice it when it comes around. But more importantly, you have to ACT on that opportunity ? there is no reward in life without some risk.
The phenomenon of The Secret is that its message gives people a sense of power over their future. Who doesn't want that? You can go to http://www.thesecret.tv for more information.

Burger Island 2 The Missing Ingredient
Generally considered a method to gain publicity, public relations has previously been subjected to severe limitations. By understanding the essential elements of public relations, we can make the entire activity significantly more useful and more effective.
In order to fully understand the concept behind Public Relations (also known as PR), we must first look at its definition. Public Relations is defined as, "Good works, well publicized". If an organization or website's good works are not well publicized, the business or organization will have a difficult time in obtaining new clients or business.
Public Relations is essentially a matter of reaching people with an idea of some kind and gaining their agreement. Throughout this article, we will explore ways in which you can improve your public relations skills and effectively increase your business..
The Missing Ingredient
Too often, public relations personnel tend to forget to include a single factor in attempting to publicize an organizations good works: reality
Reality is essentially agreement upon perceptions and data in the physical universe. What matters is degree with which people agree with the perceptions and data that you put before them.
In order to understand this, one should think of a triangle. We will call the top of the triangle Affinity, the bottom left of the triangle Reality, and the bottom right of the triangle Communication.
Affinity is similar to the word like, however affinity is a two way proposition. With affinity, not only must you feel that you like something, you must feel that it likes you as well.
Communication is the exchange of ideas across space. The way that an organization's good works are publicized is directly related to how effectively it communicates.
By properly using these three elements, Affinity, Reality, and Communication, you can effectively cause people's agreement with your projects. If any one corner of the triangle is raised, say communication, the other two corners will rise as well. If you communicate will with your customers, they will begin to have more affinity with you and your business will seem more real to them. Another option is to give them a hands on demonstration of your product or service, thereby making your product more real to the customer and making him or her more willing to communicate with you about the product and raising their affinity level in the process.
Traditional Public Relations personnel would have us believe that public relations is simply communication with one's clientele. They tend to forget that there are two other elements as well. If we do not take the other two elements into consideration, say for instance the reality element, many times we end up losing customers because the topic is not real to them.
A classic example of this is the car mechanic's shop. In many cases, an auto mechanic can discuss a problem with a customer, but the customer, not understanding the way that engines work, does not understand what the mechanic is attempting to tell them. By simply taking a couple extra minutes to explain the way that engines work, perhaps even showing models to the customer, a mechanic's shop would highly increase the reality of the situation to the customer, making them feel valued and well liked by the mechanic. This would allow the shop to communicate with the customer better, as well as cause the customer to further appreciate the service offered them. By making this simple change in the operating procedure, and properly balancing the three corners of the triangle, the customer would feel better about bringing their car to that shop, as well as recommending it to their friends.
Other examples could be shown as well, however space in this article is limited. Most importantly, however, remember to include all three elements of the triangle in your public relations and your business will skyrocket.
