The number of prescription medication commercials is at an all-time high. In fact, The FDA is charging Big Pharma more to approve TV commercials faster, so drug companies can put more ads on TV faster. Big Pharma will then pass these costs ? as well as the costs of the additional commercials they will presumably now be able to broadcast ? on to you, the consumer. Despite more ads being ran on TV, the FDA as not upped its manpower to deal with the recent inflation in commercials.
According to an article on Forbes.com,
?The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has issued fewer warnings to drug companies for false and misleading direct-to-consumer advertising and is taking longer to act on such infractions, says a Government Accountability Office (GAO) report released Thursday. Between 1997 and 2001, the FDA took an average of two weeks to issue warning letters to drug companies about ads that violate federal rules. Between 2002 and 2005, it took an average of four months to issue such letters, the report said. The GAO also found that the number of warning letters issued by the FDA fell by about half between those two time periods, the Associated Press reported.?
This shows the lack of regulations the FDA places on pharmaceutical companies. In fact, the FDA only has six employees in charge of reviewing the material despite the recent flood of drug commercials. They focus on ads with the greatest potential to affect public health, said the U.S. Health and Human Services Department the FDA's parent agency told Forbes.
Even though a recent letter from the FDA asked the White House to provide more funding more money to review and regulate direct-to-consumer drug advertising, with the amount of protection the government and the FDA provide the pharmaceutical industry, I'm sure it was nothing more than lip service.

Cant Keep It Up
Right now, part of the government bailout program includes official help for individuals struggling to make mortgage payments, but even before that was initiated there were a few steps homeowners could take to remain in your home. Here are some tips for what to do if you find yourself struggling financially and unable to keep up with your current mortgage:
Be Willing to Get Help
The most common response for families who are struggling financially is to throw their hands up in despair and give up. If you are willing to get some help and take action instead of just sitting back and letting what happens, happen – you'll be in a better position to make it through the financial hurdle while remaining in your home. People who are persistent often have the best results in getting assistance and support.
Your Mortgage Company
The first place you should look for help is with the company that holds your mortgage. When their customers foreclose on homes, they lose a lot of money, so they're often willing to work with you to help prevent another foreclosure. Don't wait until you are a month or two behind to call; make the call as soon as you think you'll have difficulty making the mortgage payment for the first time, or if you're struggling to pay all of your monthly payments. They may have a temporary hardship program with a lower monthly payment to help you through a rough financial patch.
Non-Profit Housing Counselor
A Non-profit housing counselor can help you by renegotiating your mortgage terms with your existing company or helping you re-finance your loan. Visit visit NeighborWorksAmerica and Hope Now to get help.
Certified housing counselors are also available through the National Foundation for Credit Counseling at HousingHelpNow. Keep in mind that these housing counselors are not supposed to charge you money and if they attempt to charge a fee for their services you should know they are a fraud.
Veteran Affairs
If you are a veteran or have a VA loan, there is additional help available to you through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs which is provided at no charge. The Department of Veterans Affairs can help negotiate with your loan servicer to set up a different payment agreement. You can call them toll free, at 1-877-827-3702.
What You'll Need to Do
In order for companies or lenders to give you assistance and enable you to remain in your home, you should expect a thorough review of your financial situation. You'll likely need to provide proof of employment, recent pay stubs, tax returns and a record of your debts to show why you are struggling to make your payments.
