Any good breeder will tell you that a new dog, regardless of the breed, is going to experience its fair share of problems. Chihuahuas are no different and Chihuahua problems can be caused by genetics as well as behavior and are usually a reaction to the environment around them. You should do some research into the varied types of problems you may encounter with a Chihuahua, as knowing in advance what the problems may be may help you from making a mistake.



First and foremost Chihuahuas are not good pets for children. All of the commotion, loud noises and sudden movements that are associated with kids will cause a lot of stress for a Chihuahua and could lead to a biting reaction. Plus the Chihuahua is a fragile dog that cannot take the physical abuse that a child is destined to give it. So if you are planning on getting a Chihuahua for your kids then you may want to think again.

Be very suspicious of any breeder that tries to sell you a Chihuahua referred to as a tea cup Chihuahua. Basically these are Chihuahuas that are weigh less than four pounds and they are a common Chihuahua problem. They are a problem because Chihuahuas are normally not expensive dogs but a breeder will try and sell you the smaller dogs for a lot more money because everyone wants the cute dogs. The Chihuahuas weighing less than four pounds are very unhealthy and have extremely fragile bones, so stay away from them.

Chihuahuas will snarl and bark when they think they are protecting their territory and because they are so small everyone thinks they are cute when they protect their stuff. But in reality that type of behavior can lead to uncontrollable barking and snapping at everyone they see and that sort of behavior needs to stopped immediately before the Chihuahua takes it to the next level and starts biting at people.

It is common knowledge among Chihuahua owners that probably one of the most frustrating Chihuahua problems is housebreaking. Chihuahuas hate the elements like rain and snow and will not go outside when the weather is not the best, and that can make relieving themselves where you want them to very difficult.

In all honesty one of the biggest Chihuahua problems that any owner will encounter is the difficulty in housebreaking a Chihuahua. They will usually refuse to go outside in the cold or rain and they will also become quite stubborn about relieving themselves outside at all. Some owners find that they are never able to totally housebreak their Chihuahua and are forced to resort to the litter box method which has problems all its own.

There is no one set way a Chihuahua will act. Some are aggressive while some are passive and some are obedient while others just won't listen. You are just going to have to spend a lot of time with your Chihuahua to figure out what kind of dog you have and then alter your training habits from there.

It can take a while and it can also take a while to get through to your Chihuahua but since you took it on as a pet then you owe it to your dog to make it the best-behaved dog you can make it.
