Choosing The Right Hat!

    View:
Dear Friend, I have helped both women and men choose hats for over 18 years. One of the most frequently asked questions that I get asked is; "What style of hat should I wear to best suit my face?" So, to help you out with your choice I have created some brief questions and guidelines to follow. Please note that these choices are only general guideline to help you with your decision. Remember, the Golden Rule when choosing the perfect hat is to choose one that you can feel comfortable and confident in!You can email, or call me-I'm here to help Sincerely,Maxine http://www.maxineshats.com What is The Shape Of Your Face? 1.Measure your face across the top of your cheekbones from the edge of one cheekbone to the exact point on the other cheekbone. Record these measurements 2.Measure across the two widest points of your jaw line 3.Measure across your forehead at the two widest points 4.Measure the tip of your hairline to the bottom of your chinIs the length of your face equal to one and a half times its width? You have an oval shaped face!So you were blessed with an oval shaped face. Congratulations! The oval face is approximately one and a half times longer than the width of the forehead. It is considered the ideal shape because it is perfectly balanced in form; the forehead is slightly wider than the jaw, with a pointed chin. You can wear any style/shape hat; they will all flatter your face.Do you have a round hairline and chin? Are the height and width of your face are similar in length? Are your cheekbones the broadest area of your face? You have a round shaped face!A round face is characterized by a round chin, as opposed to a pointed one; the height and width are similar in length and the widest part of a round face is in the middle. Hat styles with a medium-wide brim, high crown, square shaped crown and asymmetrical brim will be the most flattering look on your face. Add extra length to your face by setting the brim at a slight angle. Avoid: Hats with rounded crowns and small brims. Styles that create the illusion of a wider forehead will be flattering - try styles that are wide at the temples and tapered (narrowed) towards the jaw and nape of the neck. These will make your forehead look wider and your jaw narrower. Small fringes will also help to disguise a narrow forehead. Try not to create too much width in your hair around your jaw line, or too much flatness on top of your head and around your temples. Are the height and width of your face are similar in length? Are your forehead and jaw similar widths? Do you have a square jaw line? You have a square shaped face!Square shaped faces are defined by their strong jaw lines and often square hairlines. Both the forehead and jaw are approximately the same width. The width of the face is similar to its height. Wide Brim hats, hats with a medium full crown hat, which are rounded rather than square hats with an asymmetrical brim will flatter your face the most. Slant the brim of your hat to soften square edges. Avoid: Hats with small brims Avoid: Hats with rounded crowns and small brims.Do you have a narrow forehead? Are your cheekbones the broadest area of your face that gradually decreases to a small chin area? You have a diamond shaped face! The diamond shaped face is broadest at the cheekbones, and narrow at the eye line and jaw line with a pointed chin. You have knockout cheekbones and can wear any style you choose. Try to avoid too much hair in your face though - we want to see you! This is the rarest face shape. You will need hats that emphasize your eyes, and bring out your cheekbones. Cocktail hats, small brim hats with a rolled or up swept brim will flatter you the most. Avoid: Hats with pointed or sharp anglesAre your cheekbones and forehead the widest area of your face? Does your face gradually narrow down to a slightly pointed chin? You have a heart shaped face! The heart-shaped face has a broad forehead and a narrow chin. You need hat styles that draw attention 'upwards' will flatter you the most. Small brimmed hats, pillboxes, cocktail hats with eye-catching trim will flatter you the most Avoid: Large hats with heavy shapesDo you have a narrow forehead that gradually increases to a broad jaw?You have a pear shaped face! The pear or triangular shaped face is widest at the jaw line with a rounder chin as opposed to a pointed one. Emphasize your eyes and draw focus away from your strong jaw line. Find a hat with a short, uneven brim and a lofty crown. You can also wear a rolled or upswept brim, but wear it straight across the brow or across the hairline. Avoid: Hats with pointed or sharp anglesIs your face longer than one and a half times its width? Do you have long straight cheek line? You have an oblong shaped face!An oblong face is defined as a face that is longer than it is wide with a long straight cheek line. Hat styles with a wide brim will flatter your shape the most. Avoid: Hats with high crowns Emphasize your eyes and draw focus away from your strong jaw line. Find a hat with a short, uneven brim and a lofty crown. You can also wear a rolled or upswept brim, but wear it straight across the brow or across the hairline.
