Couples who have a tough time attempting to express their thoughts with each other often are not good listeners, and probably have a festering bitterness inside. Many, if not most, relationships experience some crisis over money problems and inability to trust issues. Now we offer several guidelines to help couples reach out to each other as good listeners and communicators, so that they can improve their partnership.
Don't be afraid to discuss these ideas with your significant other. Ask them if they think your partnership together is worth salvaging. If the answer is yes, then talk about what kind of action you both should take to solve the communication gap between the both of you.
* Make the difficult decision to pay attention to one another's comments and statements. When you open up and communicate with your loved one and they reciprocate the same way, you will both feel wonderful. Remember that it is a disappointing and hurtful experience if you or your partner does not do this, so let them know what you think.
* Ask your spouse or lover how their day has been (if they're not too irritable!) Most of the time, everyone loves to be asked about their day, such as what happened at work for example. It's a great way to build up your relationship again when you talk about job related issues and problems.
* Learn to give in to your partner's requests sometimes. But learn to compromise, if he or she wants to go to a certain movie or restaurant you don't particularly care for, learn to give in occasionally. You will feel better in the long run, and your partner might do the same.
* It's imperative that you express that you expect your partner to listen to what you have to say in return. Also, if you have been doing things for your partner, be sure to request that you expect the same in return. Sometimes people have to learn new habits and behaviors to get their relationship better.
Ask your companion if they are willing and open to seek counseling with a trained relationship expert. This should help you both address unresolved issues that need help from a third party. Remember you can't keep a relationship by doing nothing, so do something instead.
