Because the nose sticks out on our face, it is one of the most easily damaged part of our face and body. So, if you've ever had your nose broken like a lot of us have, you most likely aren't happy with how it looks now. It's probably crooked or veering off to one side. But don't worry, you don't have to live with it forever.



A nose job can help fix your broken nose and make it straight again. Depending on the extent of treatment, the rhinoplasty procedure takes only a couple of hours. So how's it done?

To fix a crooked nose, the surgeon will most likely have to target the nasal bones as well as the septum. Nasal bones support the nose at its upper portion, near the eyes, while cartilage is responsible for maintaining the shape of the rest of the nose. The septum is the wall in your nose that separates it into two nostrils. Predominately comprised of cartilage, it is more flexible than bone but can be damaged nonetheless. When it is damaged and shifts out of position, the condition is called a deviated septum. A deviated septum can complicate breathing, since it may block air passing into the body.

To fix a deviated septum, your cosmetic surgeon may remove a portion of the septum or place tiny incisions in it to realign it.

If you don't have a broken nose or weren't born with a straight nose, the septum may still be targeted during rhinoplasty. Removing a part of the septum can shorten a undesirably long nose.
