Oscar De La Hoya dominated throughout before stopping the showman Ricardo Mayorga in the 6th round Saturday night to acquire the WBC super Welterweight title at MGM Grand Garden.



On the other hand, De La Hoya did his talking with his fists dropping Mayorga with a left hook within the first minute of the fight. After the knockdown, De La Hoya continued to strike Mayorga along the ropes before dropping him again. Referee Nady then stepped in and called an end to the round.

Mayorga, who had put up a show disgusting De La Hoya with insults during news, was humble as the two met in a ring corner after Nady stopped the round with Mayorga trying to rise from the second knockdown.

Regarding the scoring the three judges, Duane Ford scored every round for De La Hoya, while Guido Cavalleri and Paul Smith gave the third round to Wild Mayorga. An unofficial punch count showed De La Hoya out landing Mayorga by accurately two to one, 116 punches to 58.
