Fix Your Credit Yourself

    View:
First of all, get your credit report. You got to know what you owe before you can go about fixing your credit. You can get your hand on the credit report easily and you can get it for no cost. Research on it and it would be easier to acquire. But if you need the credit score then you got to pay for it. There are sites where you can buy it from.

Secondly, pore over the report you have got. It is easier to forget where you have made a late payment and where you have defaulted unless you check the report. You got to double check whether the negatives are genuine or faulty. Firstly, you can dispute the negative ones if you feel that they are faulty and if you have records that support your argument. There could very small bills that are unpaid and shown in the negative that you might have been unaware of before. If you identify them pay them off immediately and fix your credit.

Once you are through with your inquiry make a list of the immediate credits and the not-so-immediate. Prioritize and then plan accordingly. The list can range from a major issue like bankruptcy to something as small as credit inquiry. Remember, nothing is too trivial to be not dealt with. Everything has to be dealt with, but prioritize according to their magnitude.

When you are going to challenge then go for the jugular. No friendly fires here. Say that it is not yours. Yes, just start that way. When you have decided to fight, pack a punch on the first hit itself. When you start corresponding then you should make sure you keep a record of everything. You should be sure to send them through registered mail. Never use the avenues provided by the credit bureaus. Always trust the registered mail service or certified ones.

There are times when you have paid off your debts, but they somehow manage to come back to haunt you. The agencies may bombard you with debts that you have already paid and if you don't notice then you will be paying them off again and again. This is where the importance of maintaining records surface. It is also where the correspondences you have kept as a record comes into play. You can easily dispute if you have the backing of the supporting papers.

Whenever someone gives you a call and converses to you regarding the credit issues, make sure to get the name of the person and the issue you discussed. Do not think of it as a nothing call. Nothing means something if it involves credit repair and fixing. Every bit of information helps and every penny counts.

Now, you got to sit tight until the credit bureau completes its investigation. By law they have to revert within a month period and that period of time has to be given to them. If they do not get back to you, then you will be cleared off everything. Well, then that is not a distinct possibility as you well know. The credit bureaus will send a correspondence to you with their impression on the investigation and share with you their views on the same. If it so happens that you are on the right, then the credit report of yours will look good.

When the credit report shows you that an item is off the list, but bounces back in sometime don't be shattered. Be prepared. There has to be a written correspondence from the bureau about this. If it has not been given then you can go against them. These subtle and important details are to be kept in mind when you go about fixing your credit.
Fix Your Credit Yourself
The first thing to do, if at all possible, is to avoid bankruptcy. If you are falling further and further behind with your creditors try to call them directly and make an arrangement that will work for both of you. Bankruptcy is rarely the best solution and it has long term negative effects.

If you have declared bankruptcy, try to maintain ownership of a piece of valuable property; like your automobile, home, or a piece of land. If you can manage to hold something of value through the bankruptcy process you'll be much more ahead then if you didn't. With your valuable asset you can borrow against it using a secured credit card. You agree to put the asset on the line if you fail to pay your bill. Apply for one of these cards as soon as possible. Make sure you always pay the balance in full each month. That way you build your credit and avoid interest payments too.

Sometimes using an asset to get a secured credit card isn't an option. If this is the case, have a friend or family member cosign on a small loan or credit card with you. They agree to be responsible for any debt you have with the new account. You are putting their credit score and financial future at risk by having them sign with you. Be grateful and don't over borrow. Even a small loan or credit card will do big things for your credit.

Be prepared to build for two to three years before you try for a bigger loan (like an automobile). If you have diligently paid your balance in full each month you'll probably get a decent interest rate. If you already have a car or other large loan you can refinance to build even more credit and save more money. Bankruptcy and its negative effects stay on your record for ten long years. Just because you've declared bankruptcy doesn't mean all is lost. After a few years of on-time regular payments you should start to see better interest rates. Lenders like to see that you are making a serious effort and that you are no longer a risk. Try to get back on the map with any kind of positive credit history.

Credit cards are a great way to start. If you have problems with credit cards but still want to build your credit, consider a prepaid card. These still report to the credit bureau and don't have the same temptation as regular credit cards.

With all of this just realize that it will pass. Everyone has problems here and there so keep your head up. You can do it!
