It is said that as many as three quarters of the work force in the United States will in the year 2009 expect to be looking for a new job at some point during the year. This is an astounding number but understandable since the economy is about as bad as modern times have known and when that happens it means the job market will become saturated and the only people in a position to see their lives get better under those circumstances are those that went from not having a degree to having one.



Choosing a degree that is in high demand only increases your chances of a better life or perhaps better said it speeds up the process. Anybody with any kind of legitimate degree will eventually find their place in the sun but those who choose areas of higher learning which are currently in demand are going to be the ones to quickly see themselves go from not making that next level income to making more than the starting average salary of someone that has a college education.

The good news that comes with a depressed economy is that something like an online college course, or anything else that once created can be sold in mass quantity at little or no extra cost, becomes very easy to offer credit on the tuition costs. Yes you will require a teacher to do some grading and evaluation but once the classes are created they can be in many cases left alone, never or seldom ever needing any sort of updating. This more true of the preliminary courses than those at the end of the line which falls perfectly into plan of extending credit to as many as that want to take advantage because if the student doesn't pass (or pay for them) the first year of courses the college can cut its losses by demanding for either payment for the failed courses or not allowing the student to continue, depending upon circumstance. Any student proving to be succeeding should be incentive to the college that if they continue then they will graduate and as such then find employment allowing them to pay back their student loans therefore reason to continue loaning the cost of tuition.

Student loans will never be as easy to get as being free but depending upon how much that area of knowledge needs to be updated there should be certain classes that are almost automated with the same material from one year to the next. After all it is only the fool who would seek to cheat a class that was designed to be learned in order to learn an upcoming class where they didn't have all the answers to help them cheat. Those that would not, or could not recognize the consequences of such action probably shouldn't be allowed to hold jobs that require certain degrees anyway. Lets face it you wouldn't want your doctor being somebody who couldn't recognize there are times when you shouldn't cheat simply because that is the smart thing to do so I suggest the above theory is sound.

In any case these may be poor economic times but they may also open doors for the poor which might not have otherwise existed. Isn't there some sort of old Asian proverb that speaks about bad times being opportunity in disguise? If there isn't then there ought to be. Just like in times when it is conceived as being a good economy the people that will get ahead are those that are willing to show ambition and follow through to the end. In bad economic times the best plan of attack is to work towards preset goals that are logical choices to have final results that are most likely to have jobs which are high paying and in demand. Choosing to become an art critic might not fall under the category of wise choices for career in bad economic times. Choosing to be a teacher, pharmacist or health care specialist would be much better choices.

Finally there is one thing that is for certain and that is regardless of what kind of economy the world climate has for its current state, your life on a personal level will not likely get better in respect to higher paying jobs until you have an education which will allow you to get those kind of positions so do not delay getting started.
