Finding the right thing to offer to the market place can be a daunting task. You don't want to get into a business that everyone and their mother is already doing. It can be quite a challenge to make a decent profit in a saturated environment unless you have something that sets you apart from the rest. What you offer can make or break you.
Consider being the very first person to introduce Coca Cola or Cell Phones. Where would you be if you were the one that started the trend? How many mansions, yachts, Ferraris and castles would you have? The power of being able to start a trend that lasts and takes hold of marketplaces is huge!
For more realistic expectations in staying on top of new trends, you'll need to do some market research. Ideally, you'll want to begin with finding out what your clients want. The following are a couple ideas that can assist you in obtaining a head start as far as conducting adequate market research:
- Random Surveys
- Online Questionnaires
- 3 Foot Rule Approaches
- Fish Bowl Entries (i.e. Submit Your Opinion for a Chance to win Free Prizes)
Get the idea?
Get out there and get creative! Make sure that you don't end up following the crowd. You can't lead the marketplace with a new product if it has already been placed in most households in the country. The next method you can use is keeping up with current events.
For example, if there is a forecast for a hurricane, then you'll want to jump into or at least partner with people that offer services such as roofing, property repair and cleaning, shutter sales and insurance claims. If there are reports of increased layoffs, then there will be more crime which results in a further demand for bail bonds.
As a business person you'll need to have an eye for services that people will need and keep on top of current events. Market research can make or break your business; it is just as important as all the other aspects.Going after this step is the same as making sure a vehicle is built with wheels. Without spending time on this critical step, you could be building a business that's as solid as a house of cards.
With that said, make sure you do due diligence to find the right opportunity, with the right product and timing to dive into! Cheers to a great success!
