O.k., you have sent out what? maybe 5 to 15 resumes to different companies and yet you still receive no response. You think to yurself, "what's the deal here, my resume and cover letter is as good as it can get, why aren't they calling me?



I am going to approach this from personal experience. Years ago when I was going through the same thing, thinking exactly those words running through my head, bills piling up and day after day baffled at the lack of response.

Something had to be done. I had to figure out what was wrong, I had to set aside my deflated ego and really get to the bottom of this. So then came the massive quest for information, and yes it took me a couple of weeks to compile everything I needed but the education was certainly worth it.

What I discovered, is that I was essentially giving them old techniques and writing methods they no longer wanted to see. My resume and cover letter bored them to tears. After gathering all the information I believed was correct, I took it to a head hunter and asked them to look at it and low and behold I was still a little off base, but it was far better than when I started.

With a few tweaks here and there it was as good as it could get. I resent them to the same companies that gave me zero response prior, I think it was the fourth or fifth that got a response, got the interview and got the position.

The larger picture here is, this is a facet of your job search that is forever evolving and you need to stay abreast of the changes in order to give yourself the upper hand.

Think about this. You are only one of hundreds of people applying for the same position so one has ask ones self how on earth do I put myself on top and get noticed?

Keeping in mind all the while, that this is only one step to whole process. This is the step that gets you in the door, and then comes the whole process of selling yourself as the best candidate for the position.

The simplest and most effective way to accomplish this is to do your homework. This is where the real work begins. You have to know exactly who the company is, what they do and what the corporate goals are as well as what the position really entails.

What is it that they will expect out of you and how you can explain to them how you will give them more than they expect.

The more you know about the company and the position the more at ease it will put your prospective employer. He/she will be left with the impression of how important this opportunity is to you and will be more apt to give you a second interview, which typically involves 1 to 3 other people.

Today's employment scene is flooded with people looking for a better living and a better way of life and there are only a few ways you can rise to the top and win.

Resume and Cover Letter Research - The company, its history and goals and the position requirements

Your attire - How you dress and present yourself

Your level of confidence

Your follow-up

If you have done all that you could possibly do and follow these guidelines laid before you, you have just increased your chances of a positive outcome by untold percentages.

I hope this helps someone who like me years ago was out in the dark as to what really needed to be accomplished in order to put myself on top.

Your single and most important weapon in your arsenal is you resume and cover letter that is what gets you through the door and if you can't get in that door you can can't win.
