This is understandable since the price of electronic goods seem to get cheaper and cheaper every year. Added to this a lot of news reports talk of considerable price reductions on the high street that only seem to justify holding off for even longer.



The retail price of electronic goods always decreases, doesnt it?

When LCD televisions and Plasma TVs were originally launched they sold for about 10000.00. Every year they became cheaper and cheaper and right now you can buy them for a fraction of the cost with a much higher specification and superior picture performance. Well this trend of constantly falling prices on consumer electronics is about to change.

Within the last 12 months the value of the pound against the Dollar, Euro and Yen has weakened by about 30%. So what has this got to do with the price of consumer electronics? Well because a lot of products are manufactured in China and Eastern Europe the cost of importing them has increased as a result of the weakness of the pound. Even electronic products produced in the UK will be affected by this because they use components produced outside of the UK.

Due to the economic down turn the majority of top brand manufacturers have tried to absorb this increase in costs and put off increasing the prices. Regrettably they aren't able to put this off any longer and announcements have been made by Sony, Panasonic, Yamaha, Denon and Sennheiser that prices will increase by up to 32% in January 2009. Once this happens expect other manufacturers to follow. The prices may increase on existing models for some manufactures whilst others may well wait until they launch imminent new ranges of products. But be in no doubt prices will rise. Furthermore if the pound weakens even further then prices may have to increase even higher in the future.

As a result of these imminent price rises now is the best time to buy the high definition LCD TV, high definition Plasma television, Blu-Ray player etc that you have been promising yourself for so long or else you will almost certainly pay extra in the future. If you dont take this opportunity now it may well be a long time before retail prices come back to their existing levels. If you dont believe that this will take place then you will pay extra.
