There has been a heavy spotlight on home security and that has initiated the development of security devices that deter break-ins, protecting personal possessions and loved ones from criminal intentions by criminals. When home alarms initially came out, home security devices were narrowed to window and door contacts and pads placed under the carpet. Since then many improvements have been added to the homeowners' arsenal for home protection.

One of the most common and very often overlooked home security devices are a person's vehicle keys. Many modern cars come equipped with a remote that you use to lock and unlock the doors and windows, and often the remote control also contains a panic button. It's an easy and yet workable security measure to place your car keys beside you at night, which enables you to press the emergency button when you suspect there's someone in the home. That will activate the car alarm, which will in many cases interrupt the burglar and cause them to run away.

Most of the improvements made to home security devices are the product of security device manufacturers consulting with rehabilitated criminals to learn from them precisely how many criminals gain access to a home and how they generally attempt to deactivate alarm systems. No security measure is fail proof and a very hardened professional thief will be able to gain access if he chooses to do so. It's the opportunists and the people who decide to rob a house at a whim that home security devices will prevent from doing so.

The simple act of installing selected home security devices inside and outside the house could offer substantial comfort, but common sense will save a lot of problems. Many times the burglars succeed in breaking into heavily guarded homes with most of the fanciest security devices, just because the homeowner forgot to activate the alarm system.
