Why are governments of different countries campaigning for energy saving or energy conservation? What purpose does it serve us? Do we really need to answer those questions? Isn't it obvious what is happening to our surroundings? The world now is experiencing global climate change. Global warming is a serious condition that affects our present and future. This is caused by accumulated greenhouse gases that trap the energy of the sun in the atmosphere.

Normally, absorbing sunlight in the atmosphere and radiating it back to space is a cycle in which greenhouse gases are involved. With the right amount or percentage of elements such as carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide maintaining its equilibrium, we don't experience any bad effects on the process.

But today our world is fast becoming modernized and commercial. Individuals and highly industrialized companies contribute to increase some of the elements of greenhouse gasses, destroying its balance. Households and manufacturing plants produce massive elements such as carbon dioxide to mix with the greenhouse gases.

Extra amount of carbon dioxide is not needed in the process of absorbing and radiating sunlight into space. A problem called global warming occurred since the balance of elements is disrupted. The amount of sunlight absorbed in the atmosphere is not proportionate to the amount of sunlight being radiated to the space by the greenhouse gases.

Sunlight being radiated to the space is lesser than the amount of sunlight absorbed. The large amount of sunlight trapped in our atmosphere is the reason of extreme hot condition that we are experiencing today.

As we all know that carbon dioxide is the biggest factor why global warming occurred, researchers alongside with governments of different countries are calling on the entire nations to save energy. As mentioned earlier households and buildings that release smoke in the atmosphere constitute a large amount of Carbon Dioxide.

We are the very ones causing this global problem. Isn't it our responsibility to control this situation? We might consider saving energy as a small thing to do but it has a big impact overall in our society

Reasons why people should save energy:

Saving energy saves you as consumer a lot of money. As long as appliances are running even if you're not using them or even just plugged in but is not turned on it will still consume energy.

One might think this consumption of energy is not that much. But consider this, do you think you're the only one doing such thing? If majority of us people will let this happen, can you still say it's just a little energy consumption?

By saving energy such as gas or fuel, we can reduce the production of carbon dioxide, one of the elements that constitute the greenhouse gases. Burning fuel or gas in our homes create or emit gases. Every time we use gas, a large amount of carbon dioxide is produced in the atmosphere. Companies nowadays provide us with fuels using pipelines so we should check for leaks if any to avoid wasteful gas consumption. Leaks usually are the causes of fire in households.

To sum it all up, saving energy or proper usage of energy will save the world from global warming. It's all up to us. Whether we want to save our world from gradual destruction or let Mother Nature turn its devastating revenge to us. The choice is in our hands.
