The statistics are impressive as it appears that China may have overtaken the numbers provided by the US for so many years in just one clean stroke. In its latest report entitled, "22nd China Internet Development Report", the China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC) disclosed that as of June 2008 there are 253 million Internet users in China with 214 million of them being broadband users. Both numbers are currently the largest in the world.
Another interesting item appearing in the report is the number of CN domain names registered, which at 12.188 million makes it the highest among top-level domain registrations in the world.
Changing demographics. In the not so distant past, it was reported that the average Internet user in China was young, highly educated and affluent, with lots of disposable income to spare. But with the increasing number of net users and the wider reach of broadband connections, the face of the average Internet user is changing.
The CNNIC report shows that while most of the net citizens are young, 39% of them are high school graduates. Thus, the websites that are popular in China are music, news, blogs/personal space, video, search engine, email, online games, and online shopping sites. Following major world-news events like the devastating Wenchuan earthquake and the Beijing Olymics, news sites have become very popular in China.
During the aftermath of the Wenchuan earthquake, for instance, government authorities issued an order calling for a few days of nationwide mourning. It was requested of websites that they adopt a black mourning theme, and to halt fun and gaming activities on their sites. Most users accessed the Internet to view the latest news updates on the rescue efforts after the earthquake. This move is a clear indication of the massive reach and influence that the Internet already has in China.
In the more progressive Chinese cities like Shanghai and Beijing, online shopping rates remain high on internet users list of regular online activities. Shanghai reportedly has the largest number of online shoppers. With the growing availability and acceptance of online payment systems, these numbers are predicted to grow in other cities.
To date, there are 23.7 million users of the online payment system, a 71% jump from the previous year.
In addition to the acceptance of online payment systems, an emerging trend that is about to change the statistics of China e-commerce soon will be the use of the mobile phone to access the Internet. This means a great deal to those in rural areas that suffer from ordinary PC access, and will lead to further growth in internet use in China.
While the actual figures representing Internet usage may already seem to be high, the Internet penetration rate is only 19.1%, which is still below the global average of 21%. This means that there is still room for growth in Internet usage as more users in rural areas may now connect to the net using mobile phones.
With encouraging numbers, increasing social acceptance and developing trends, China's internet economy is certainly going in the right direction.

Article marketing is a proven marketing technique that can be done without spending any money at all. That is one of the things that make it so appealing. Another appeal is that almost anyone can write well enough to utilize article marketing to some degree in order to promote a product or service.
Article marketing can generate traffic, lead to backlinks, and ultimately result in increased sales. The secret to article marketing is that there are not any real secrets. We all communicate with one another and that is what articles are about, communicating with each other through that specific format. Of course, in order to get the most from your articles special attention should be paid to the following:
1) Carefully select the title
2) Provide what Internet users are looking for
3) Create a resource box that gets results
4) Know where and how to submit
The article title can either result in instant reads or it can result in the article totally being ignored. Your article title should grab the attention of the reader but there is more to choosing a title than just that. It is important to include your keywords in the title and it helps if your title is also unique. Put all those elements together and you are sure to have one great title that leads to your article getting read.
The Internet has become the go to place to find needed information on virtually any topic under the sun. Most people have an idea of what it is that they are looking for and they want to find it fast. All you have to do is provide it and you will find success.
After writing a great article you must include a resource box that will work for you, what I mean is, you need one that will motivate the readers to click through to your site. One way of doing this is to basically let the resource box be a continuation of your article. Let the flow continue through to the content of the resource box and there you should offer a free report, ebook, or other useful information for the reader that can be found by visiting your site.
The location you send them to should include a webform that is there to collect names and email addresses. Upon completion of the form the reader will receive your free offer. Your new subscribers have essentially bought that free gift by providing you with their name and email address. You now have the opportunity to contact them again and again with other offers.
Decide what directories you are going to submit your articles to. It is wise to have a plan and to stick with that plan. There are major players in the article directory fields but there are also smaller directories that specialize in various niches. You may want to submit your articles to numerous directories in order to achieve massive results.
Learn what is and is not acceptable to most directories and adhere to those guidelines when writing your articles. This will speed up the submission process and get your articles approved more quickly.
