The new transportation bill is actually just one signature away and it is currently on top of the US president's desk. The main thing that would make this bill become a big deal for most people would be that as part of this is the idea of requiring car dealers to put crash test ratings and scores on the vehicles' windows. This bill is actually the brainchild of Mike DeWine of Ohio who is a Republican Senator. According to this senator, "Vital safety information needs to be accessible to the consumer when they need it most, at the dealership when purchasing decisions are made." This is primarily because the public is able to know about the safety ratings only through some research that they would have to do through the Internet. Otherwise, the public would not know the ratings of the vehicles when it comes to crash tests.

Aside from putting crash test ratings on vehicles' windows, other provisions on vehicle safety include new rules on roof strength. There also is a provision on the replacement of outdated standards for some come even as early as the 1970s. There would be new studies done on rollovers so as to be able to release results come 2009 on how to reduce rollover fatalities.
