With our local phone company, we were paying $20 a month. This small plan let us make all the calls we wanted between 5 P.M. and 8 P.M. and all day on Saturday and Sunday. For a while this plan was just fine, but circumstances changed so that I was home during the day and wanted use the service.

A popular option that became available recently was the long distance calling plan code that provided reduced calling rates. By dialing a seven digit code before the area code and phone number, you rerouted the call through a cheaper long distance provider. Here is a great communication related site http://www.communicationroad.com. This option could be used in conjunction with any other plans that were already on the phone service because it just circumvents that existing plan.

Some people have tried to avoid phone use charges altogether by using their webcams with voice to initiate communication through the internet. This can be fun seeing and talking to the person who is miles away, but there are still many kinks in the system that may interrupt the link.

VOIP has eliminated many of the problems that exist with other long distance calling plans. For those who use their long distance a lot, you will enjoy making calls at any time with no limits on the minutes you use. This plan offers one monthly fee with no hidden extra charges and gives you every calling feature you could want. Generally, the fee is around $40 a month including fees and taxes.

With our land line taken care of, it would be nice if cell phones were as competitive with their long distance calling plans. With flexibility and affordability, staying in touch with family and friends at any time is much easier.
