I used to love myself. I'm pretty sure I did. It's supposed to come natural to all of us, isn't it? It comes with the territory...the territory of being born. Then why is it, by the time I was in my early 20's, I got married to get away from life as I knew it? And if anyone out there is familiar with this, it means that you were probably abused too. Abuse is abuse, no matter how you look at it and running away is running away, no matter how you look at that. I told myself and anyone else that listened that I was in love and maybe I was....only I was in love with the freedom, not him. That freedom didn't last long, though.
Fifty books within in year, a lot of quiet time, great determination and just the desire for a different type of freedom is the road I took....the road less traveled, as they say. But, do you know what? If someone told me how hard it was going to be, I would have chosen to walk that same path.
Some twenty plus years later, I'm a mother, a grandmother, and a newlywed who met a man from Alabama via the computer and I took another stab at life. This time, I'm not running away from life as I knew it. I'm starting a journey with a man I truly love and absolutely adore. I hold a vision of our future very clear in my mind and very close to my heart. Was it all worth it? Loving yourself again, always is.
