First, unless you are a pediatrician, a chemist or a barber ? ban short sleeve shirts from your spring and Summer wardrobe. Long sleeves are the only acceptable style. A variety of fabrics and colors are acceptable. Pure cotton shirts are best (I prefer pima cotton but oxford cloth and poplin are popular too). Polyester can get warm. The collar is more a function of formality and style. English spread collar is the most formal. The American straight collar in the next most formal. The button-down collar is the least formal.

If in doubt, consult the planner, the bride or the groom ahead of time. Because of the warmer temperatures during day weddings, they are often much more relaxed about the dress code. Regardless of the color of suit that you finally choose, make sure to wear a fine light colored dress shirt under it, paired with a complementing or nicely contrasting tie.

The Hawaiian Aloha shirt sports short sleeves for coolness and is usually worn outside the trousers. The Aloha shirt increased the trend towards distinctively Hawaiian designs and print colors, and most Hawaiian shirts now feature local designs including local tropical plants and scenes from the islands.

Dress your child in loose fitting clothing. When they go out to play, make sure that they can move around freely. Lighter materials such as cotton allow your child's skin to breathe and stay cool while they play. Denim is too confining and holds moisture. Let them wear sandals or tennis shoes with a pair of cotton socks. Without footwear, the sand or sidewalk will burn their feet.
