'Ashwagandha' is one of the valuable medicinal plants used in Ayurveda, Siddha and Unani systems of medicine.
The botanical name of this plant is Withania somnifera (L.) belonging to the family, Solanaceae.
The root of this plant is generally utilized for the herbal formulations.
However, leaves and seeds are also used in certain cases.
The plant is very popular in India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Israel and Africa.
Some of the alkaloids like Withanine present in this plant has the property of curing a number of human diseases.
When I went through a research paper, I found almost all diseases of human beings can be cured by 'ashwagandha.'
I asked myself, why then such a 'sarva rogha nivarani' is not being used to the full potential for curing human diseases?
No answer I could find.
Thousands of literature, research papers and books explain the 'good' of 'ashwagandha.'
But still it has to see its light of the day as a universal potent drug for solving the problem of human diseases.
No one has studied seriously the dose of this drug for different diseases, the form to be used, specificity etc.,
Nowadays, there are evidences to show the side effects of such formulations when administered to certain individuals or animals.
Therefore all those who work in medicinal plants, more particularly 'ashwagandha' have to be careful and do more detailed research in administering such drugs to human beings.
Whatever we eat from plant source will be harmless is only a feeling, not reality.
'Aswagandha' has been used for 4000 years in traditional medicine as a rejuvenating drug.
Hence, importance has to be for improving the yield of 'ashwagandha,' and also the production of drug from it.
Commercialization such plant based drugs after clearing its side effects will be useful for human beings who are suffering from various deadly diseases, such as arthritis, granulation tissue formation, cancer, fever, chest pain, sores, swelling, eye sores, boils, syphilis, cold, asthma, tuberculosis, bronchitis, leuco-derma and many more.
The spectrum of diseases cured by one drug like 'aswagandha' is unimaginable.
Same is the case with other plant based medicines.
When I read some publication, I felt frustrated that why such a drug is not popularized so far?
Are there limitations?
If so, is it not advisable to clear the limitations by doing little more research?
Let us hope 'ashwagandha' is going to be a miracle medicine for all the diseases listed above.
