Model Train Track Layouts

    View:
Do you have a love of model trains? If you are new to collecting trains and are looking for a few points on how to choose what sort of parts and accessories you should be buying then you are in the right place. There are so many different choices as to what you can use and how you can go about installing everything that you will be able to create your own layout or perfectly recreate the one you are trying to emulate.

The first thing you will need to do is to figure out is what exactly sort of look it is you are going for. If it is going to be a historical or current one then you should try to get as many pictures of the rail line as you can. This will let you know exactly what sort of supplies you will need. For example, if there are quite a bit of boulders around the railroad then you will want to pick up enough rocks to simulate these. If there is going to be sand then you will need to pick up some very fine grain sand to place onto your layout.

If you are going to have a good deal of woodlands surrounding the rail line you will need to pick up trees to suit the terrain. If it is a hardwood forest you will need to add oaks, maples, and the like. If it is a evergreen forest then you will need to place a selection of pines, cedars and other such trees. Also you will need to make sure that you place an amount that does not detract from your overall layout will at the same time will not be too thin.

If you will be using figurines in your layout then you will need to find some that fit into your train scale. You may have to do a little hunting to find the right size but you will soon find that there is quite a selection available for those willing to do so. Figurines can add a human element to an otherwise lonely landscape. This goes for cars and trucks as well. You have a plethora of vehicle sizes to choose from so it will all depend on the scale that you have built your railroad on.

If you find that your train would have had crossings then you can add these in as well. You can find lighted ones that can open and close as well as static ones that have to be handled manually. Wiring your new train layout will not be hard with the right tools to get you started. The secret is to start out with everything you need on hand so that you are not having to run to the store every time you need something.

One thing you will need to do is to know what short of current and voltage your model train will be using. If you have already purchased your train then you might consider taking the engine with you when you go to purchase new electrical parts. This will also save you some time if you are not having to return merchandise often.
Model Train Track Layouts
Is there a model train display sitting in your basement or garage gathering dust? Is it feeling lonely and you are feeling guilty because you became bored with it? For a really easy fix to this just give your old display a makeover! You can customize your existing train display without having to totally replace it. This can save you both time and money.

The first thing you must do is to examine your layout. Are the many trees and shrubs? If so you can remove these and place them in a storage container for use when you next decide to do a makeover or build another display. Once you have done this you can examine the remaining structures. If you have a water feature that is emulating a lake you can add or remove lake houses, boat launches and more to it. This will make it have a good deal more character. You might even decide to add a scaled model boat to the feature.

Another customization and make over tip comes with the removal of the vegetation. Once this is completed you can then do a repaint of your base structure and create a different road layout. Once you add back your trees and other vegetation it will look like a whole new display. You can also make a big difference by changing the rock structures on your display. To do this you have a several different options.

Your first option is the addition of moss to the rocks. This is easy to do. All you have to do is to add a little bit of spray adhesive to your model rocks and then press the moss into place. If moss is not your idea of a cool addition then you might want to add a little bit of faux snow to the tops of your tallest hills. Again, if this does not appeal to you then just turn your hills into part of a woodland by adding small trees on the flat parts of the rocks.

The next change you can easily make is to paint your buildings. Change the whole appearance by changing the colors and adding decals or stamps to them so that they look like they have posters on the outside. You can also move them around and give them a different setup. If you have people on your display then you could change them out with others. Again, change the time period and you will change the overall look.

f you want to make a major change in your display then you have one more huge option. You can purchase a new locomotive and cars to go with your newly remade display. This should be a last resort however if you are trying to save money when doing your remodel job.

Remember, your model train display did not build you. You built it. Do not blame your display for not keeping your attention. Get up and do something about it. Customize your display so that it looks just like a new one and give your old hobby a new face.
