The wheel is made up of two discs, a smaller one and a larger one at the bottom, these two being joined by a vertical axle. The clod is put on the upper disc and the lower disc is moved by the potter with the help of one leg, and thus the disc starts in a quick circular movement. Thus the wheel rotates in circular forms with regular outlines.

When making the pot one needs an exquisite technique and a high speed of working as the paste must not dry.

After shaping, pots are let several days to dry up in a shady place, then are decorated and burned for the first time. After the first process of burning, pots are bespangled and are burned for the second time in order to get a special luster. www.arta-ceramica.ro

The most used form of decoration uses a horn of cow with a pen on top. Through the horn the color is strained to the pen. Thus we have a real nib. Fine designs can be obtained using a fine small stick made of hair of wild boar.

All used colors are natural.

- Red can be obtained from clay rich in oxide of iron. This becomes dry, it is rattled in small pieces and it is soaked in water. Thus a viscid liquid is obtained and can be filtered through the cloth and sieve and a shiny substance results.

- Black can be obtained from a special clay, found in the erosions after rains.

- Green can be obtained from cinder, by burning the copper wire in the oven. Cinder is peeled off, cut into pieces, crushed down and mixed with loam.

- White is obtained from lime mixed with mountain white stone, burned and grinded.

- Yellow is obtained from the clay of Medgidia (because of this it can be found harder) mixed with oxide of iron.

The chromatic of ceramics pots preserve old traditions. The red ceramics from the south- west of the country has Romanian origins and yellow, green and white from different centers indicate Byzantine traditions.

Plastic solutions adopted by potters of Horezu are based on repetition, interchange and symmetry., can see at www.arta-ceramica.ro

If we refer to colors, the center of Horezu is characterized by a three chromatic scale: tile color, green and blue on a white- yellowish background.

The multitude of pots can be easily explained by the simple fact that they are broken in a wedding or funeral. Many pots were broken before the fast because people were afraid that eaten food was put by mistake in old vases and they could besmirch food that was not typical for fast. Pots were gathered in the back of the yard and were broken with a bat and then replaced with new ones. Even the rick stand ( a club with few branches at the top of which pots were arranged with their holes down in order to dry after they have been cleaned) was destroyed in order to prevent other pots be besmirched.

The artizanat pottery was firstly used for food but ceramics was also used as a decorative thing, in constructions or in certain rituals. Typical farms contain a variety of clay pots - cruses, jars, bowls, pots specially designed for milk, huge pots where food was prepared for religious ceremonies, vases for flowers, icons, pipes and toys.

Glazed vases, rich in decorations and beautifully colored are used for different practical aims but also for interior decorations.

More special are objects created for different occasions, such as the huge jars for weddings from Oltenia Horezu. They use vivid colors on the black background of the pot.
