No Doubt Tickets 2009

In late November No Doubt fans rejoiced when the new wave/ska band announced plans to release a new album in 2009, but No Doubt drummer Adrian Young told http://RollingStone.com that they may have to wait a little bit longer for a new record. No Doubt has been on a five-year hiatus and are slated to end their break with a gig at next year's Bamboozled festival (their first confirmed concert) as well as a subsequent tour. Young told http://RollingStone.com: “We've been working on a new record on and off for a bit of time, and we're going to continue to work on a new record next year. We're going to continue to work on music while we're traveling. We'll have a mobile studio on the bus and eventually get to a new No Doubt record.” The as-yet-to-be-titled (and completed!) release will be issued via Interscope Records, No Doubt's label since 1991.

In 1987 John Spence, Gwen Stefani and her brother Eric formed a ska band inspired by the group Madness and began making the party rounds in their Anaheim, CA hometown (also the home of Disneyland). Bassist Tony Kanal, who was born in India and raised in the U.K. and U.S., was added to the lineup of the fledgling band, which suffered a severe setback when Spence committed suicide in December of that year. Gwen assumed the role of the sole vocalist and guitarist Tom Dumont and drummer Adrian Young joined No Doubt. Interscope caught a live performance and signed the band in 1991. Released in 1992, No Doubt's debut album didn't stand out in the grunge heyday of the time and the label consequently decided to no pursue any further releases. Undeterred, No Doubt self-recorded the punk album Beacon Street Collection and the label renewed its faith in the band (which was minus Eric Stefani—who would go on to become an animator for The Simpsons—by this time) in 1994.

Gwen and Kanal had been engaging in an intense relationship for seven years and when the pair broke up it was documented in their breakout album, 1995's Tragic Kingdom. The album spawned popular singles “Spiderweb,” “Just a Girl” and “Don't Speak” and topped the charts by the end of the year. In 2000 No Doubt released The Return of Saturn, their highly anticipated sophomore effort and saw hits like “Ex-Girlfriend” and “Simple Kind of Life” top the charts. Platinum-haired No Doubt frontwoman Gwen Stefani had long since been getting noticed for her punk girl meets ‘50s pinup persona but in the dawn of the new millennium she began to step out as a solo artist, first with the single “Let Me Blow Your Mind” with rapper Eve, which won a Grammy. Stefani continued to work with No Doubt; the band released Rock Steady in 2001 on the heels of popular lead single “Hey Baby,” but churned out two solo records as well: Love. Angel. Music. No Doubt is returning to the stage in 2009 after a five year hiatus. Although no exact tour dates have been announced, Gwen Stefani told Rolling Stone Magazine that, “I think if we go out on tour it will inspire us to write.” The band has started working on their next album, their first since the release of 2001's Rock Steady. Gwen Stefani has been busy as a mother, she now has two sons with grunge musician Gavin Rossdale and has embarked on an extremely successful solo career which she launched in 2004 with the album Love. Angel. Music. Baby. Her next solo effort also proved to be an enormous success internationally, called The Sweet Escape. A return to the stage with No Doubt is a sign to fans that this is one rock group that simply won't just disappear. No Doubt focused primarily on their ska music sound when they first emerged on the scene in 1986, but it took a while for listeners to catch on as the movement in the industry was more geared towards the grunge genre. All was to change though when No Doubt released their album Tragic Kingdom in the early 1990's and helped start the ska revival that would be prominent through the rest of the decade. Fans were delighted with tunes like “Just a Girl,” “Spiderwebs” and “Don't Speak.” No Doubt was subsequently nominated for two Grammy Awards for both “Best New Artist” and “Best Rock Album” in 1997. After their mainstream success, No Doubt tickets were some of the hottest items in the music industry.

The band followed up with the album, Return of Saturn, although it was not as commercially successful as the first attempt. The group returned faithfully to the recording studio to focus on restructuring their work and producing some more chart-topping singles. They struck luck with their 2001 studio album Rock Steady. It spawned two hit Grammy-winning singles, “Hey Baby” and “Underneath It All.” Both songs reached the top five on the Billboard Hot 100 and put No Doubt definitively back on the map. In the following few years they released the album The Singles 1992-2003, which was a compilation of all commercially released singles from the group, as well as a few live CDs and DVDs.

In 2004, the band went on a hiatus as lead singer, Stefani began work on her solo effort, which would subsequently take off with the albums Love. Angel. Music. Baby. and The Sweet Escape. She also announced that she was pregnant during this time, further delaying work with the band.

2008 is the start of the re-emergence of No Doubt as a band. The group started work on a brand new album, without Stefani being that she was busy with her second child, but the tour set for 2009 seems like it is already set in stone. They will headlining the Bamboozle 2009 festival as well, alongside Fall Out Boy.
