Non Toxic Cleaning Products

    View:
Borax

In nature, boron combines to form boric acid and inorganic salts called borates and does not exist by itself. Borax is a form of hydrous sodium borate that occurs in and regions, forming from the evaporation of saline lakes. It is also synthesised as a by-product of borate deposit mining. It is normally colourless, white, or light grey. Naturally occurring borax is translucent due to water in its structure, but develops a white powder on its surface as the water evaporates.

Borax has myriad uses in the modern world, both at home and in industry. In the home borax is used as a laundry detergent booster, cleaner, preservative, fungicide, insecticide, herbicide, and disinfectant.

Disinfectants

Once again simple laundry soap can be used as a disinfectant. In addition there are many essential oils, such as lavender, clove, and tea tree oil (an excellent natural fungicide), that are very antiseptic. Use one teaspoon of essential oil to two cups of water in a spray bottle is not only a fabulous disinfectant, but leaves a wonderful scent in the air. Locating natural essential oils online is simple when you find a site like OzFreeOnline.com. There are thousands of classified ads and searching for what you want is easy once you have registered and logged in. So happy searching.

Mould Killer

Grapefruit seed extract spray can be made by adding one teaspoon of extract to one litre of water. When using this make sure to avoid spraying in your eyes. Check out nutribiotic.com.au whose information on grape seed extract, grapefruit nutrition, grapefruit extract, grapefruit medication, and benefits of grapefruit is fascinating. Caution: Make sure to keep all homemade formulas well labelled, and out of the reach of children.

Hints:

Protect your health by learning what ‘signal words,’ mean on labels. Learn to recognize the warning signs that you have a toxic product in your hands. The best way to protect yourself and your family from toxic products is to read labels and pay particular attention to ‘signal words.’ They are written on most product labels, with the primary purpose of protecting you, but sometimes to tell you about the products’ potential impact on the environment. Unfortunately, some small shops who import these cheaper types of cleaning products from various countries do not have all the chemicals listed and in a situation like that, you should use the old standby, ‘Buyer Beware’.

POISON/DANGER means something extremely toxic. WARNING means moderately toxic. CAUTION denotes a product that is less toxic. There are a few others, called ‘warning words’ such as STRONG SENSITIZER, TOXIC, CARCINOGEN, FLAMMABLE, and CORROSIVE. Watch for all of these.

Here are some of the top four chemical groups we should reject and eliminate. These are pesticides, toxic gases (such as chlorine and ammonia), heavy metals (such as lead and mercury), and volatile organic compounds (such as formaldehyde and solvents). If we eliminate these chemicals, we will go a long way toward solving our environmental and health problems.
Non Toxic Cleaning Products
To get you more into a green cleaning scheme, you might want to know what formula to use to get good cleaning results: go nontoxic.

Using non toxic cleaning products or tools is one of the surest ways to ensure the safety of your staff and your client. They don't have to worry about its harmful side effects because there's none. Since majority of the greener companies, use them nowadays and they are inexpensive and easy-to-use natural alternatives, it would help your cleaning company if you go along with the newer and trustworthy products to reduce costs of high branded products.

What makes these non-toxic products different is that they can be made by just anyone. You don't have to buy these at any department store. If you want to get a hold with these recipes, here are a couple of non-toxic cleaning products that you put into good use:

1.Tub and sink cleaner ? this product is mixed with two products: baking soda and liquid soap. Use this cleaning product for porcelain fixtures. You sprinkle part of the porcelain, rub with it a wet rag, and add a few liquid of soap for more to get the domino effect. You can rinse it well to avoid a hazy film.

2.Windows and mirror cleaner ? to achieve its cleanliness, use white vinegar and water. Use ? of white vinegar in a spray bottle and fill it up with water. Spray the mixed liquid on the mirror surface. Rub the surface with a lint-free cotton rag. When you clean outdoor windows, use a sponge and wash it with warm water. Add a few drops of the liquid and rinse dry.

3.Linoleum floor cleaning ? such cleaning will require again a white vinegar and a bucket of water. Mop the floor with a mixture of ? cups of vinegar in a bucket of warm water. If you are worried that the strong odor of vinegar won't dissolve right away, don't be. The vinegar odor will disperse once the floor dries.

4.Toilet bowl cleaners ? at any time of the day, people visit the rest room once in awhile, and every use of the toilet bowl will generate bacteria. So what you should do is use baking soda and liquid soap to clean off any unwanted germs. Sprinkle baking soda inside the bowl and add a couple drops of liquid soap. Scrub the bowl with a brush and clean outside surfaces using a rag.

5.Oven cleanser ? If you have client who wants his house to be cleaned, then cleaning an oven is a probably a tricky one. However, there is a quick solution by just using baking powder and water. All you have to do is mix 1 cup of baking soda and water to make a paste. Spread the paste to any oven surface and let it sit for awhile. Scrub it after using a scouring pad. Use a spatula or a bread knife to reach under the large food deposits. This method of cleaning may need a lot of effort, but the product is safer to use. However, do not use this method on self-cleaning ovens.

Once you use these methods, you are in a roll of a nice, clean, and green environment. Now, every place is perfect to live in with your family at home; and co-workers at the office.
