If you were not born with perfectly straight teeth you know the embarrassment it can cause, however did you know it can also cause problems with chewing? More and more the dental field is learning that these things are not only cosmetic. From the early times in this country dental appliances have been used, thankfully they are made of more pleasing material than the original wood! Alignment, whitening and replacements have all come a long way to say the least.

When aesthetic dentistry first began, braces were used to straighten and align crooked teeth. However, large gaps had to be filled with a bridge that helped prevent the teeth present from growing at odd angles.

Many a spine has shivered at the sound of a dentists drill but it was and is unavoidable for preventing tooth decay from spreading to healthy teeth. In years gone by metals were used as filling material, today new innovations in aesthetic dentistry have created materials that are more like your actual teeth.

Common Services

Those who are not in need of straightening or alignment can find renewed beauty through tooth whitening. This relatively simple procedure can be done in one visit to your dentist office. Most dentists will perform this with your annual cleaning. It is important to have this done not only for appearance but because food particles can become embedded and lead to tooth decay. In between visits, you can now find teeth whitening available in a do-it-yourself kit from your local retailer or pharmacy.

Bridges and dentures are still in use to this day, however many people are finding they like implants better. Implants must be done surgically, a device is surgically implanted in the jaw and the tooth attaches to it. You can have one or all your teeth done in this manner. Implants are not prone to coming out like dentures and are much more pleasing to the eye since they closely resemble the real thing.

If you are not prone to invasive techniques such as implants there are still many options available. Crowns, veneers and bonding are a quick and simple way to improve your smile. While aesthetic dentistry is recognized primarily as cosmetic, the boost in self-confidence that comes from a beautiful smile cannot be overlooked.

How to Make Your California Cosmetic Dentistry Visit Go Smoothly

Going to the dentist has long been dreaded by many people. There are those who would rather be beaten in the public square than go to the dentist. This is especially true if you are scheduled for a procedure such as a filling. Though you are scared and shaky you can insure your California cosmetic dentistry procedure goes with these few tips.

Discuss the Procedure The first thing you must do to ensure your California cosmetic dentistry visit goes well is to talk about every step of the procedure with your cosmetic professional, before your scheduled visit. This is a common practice with cosmetic dentists so do not be afraid to ask. It may be possible to see before and after photos so you can focus on the results and not the process.

Ask Questions

Always, always ask questions during your visit for your California cosmetic dentistry procedure. Your professional will do their best to inform you but they may not touch on issues that are important to you. Arrange Insurance and Payments Ahead of Time

It is always pertinent to have the financial end of your California cosmetic dentistry procedure taken care of ahead of time. Other procedures will have you rely on over the counter painkillers for a little while after the procedure.

Ensure your California cosmetic dentistry procedure goes well by following all the tips above. It may not be fun to visit a traditional dentist, but a visit to an aesthetic professional does not have to be.
