Jealousy, an emotion that can really rip you apart, extremely destructive and time consuming!
Think about all the times you get jealous, how many hours do you spend brooding? How little you manage to get done whilst you’re obsessing over your partner’s text messages, or what you believe she’s up to whilst you’re not around. I used to avoid leaving the house because of my lack of trust. Spending time away from home would be utter hell, I’d imagine my partner doing all manner of negative and cruel things.
Jealousy has a strange logic attached to it too, it is easy to make something innocent a marriage wrecking problem. The worst thing about jealousy is, it just won’t go away until you can let go of what you are so desperately trying to hold on to.
You need to realise that you can survive quite happily on your own and don’t need the other person. The jealous person also needs to accept that if they are honest with themselves, their behaviour sets out to destroy what they wanted so much in the first place.
Who is the nicer person to be with? The paranoid and moody person at home or the relaxed and happy individual who seeks to make the most of their life? The older I get the more significance I can see in cycles, if you don’t change you continue to go around and around in circles and never get anywhere. You re-live you worst nightmares on an hourly basis, you deny yourself and your partner freedom. To move on is to leave the confines of your prison and discover the true beauty and meaning of life.
I think the best way to overcome jealousy is to observe your emotions when they turn sour and rather than respond “emotionally” use your intellect and look at the emotion with logic.
So what if your partner goes off with someone else, you’ll move on, maybe you weren’t right for each other anyway.
So what if your partner like to spend time with friends?
So what if they want to do something which doesn’t involve you
So what…
Try doing the above exercise a few times, it will get easier and you’ll start to believe what you are saying.
Making positive affirmations is a really good idea, the more you repeat affirmations, the more ingrained they get in the subconscious. Once you’ve got your subconscious mind on your side you’ll really be able to move forward.
Strive to be as independent as you can be, knowing that all you really need in this world is shelter, food and water. Only look at important things and dispel any negativity in your life. If there are people in your life who are no good for you, leave them behind and move on.
Try to deny the ego, the ego only serves to make you crave attention, you don’t need that, you know how good you are and just need to believe it. Glamour and personality is not a good thing, it’s shallow and transient whereas a good solid character will keep you sane and moving forward, whilst gaining the admiration of others.
Meditation is a very good technique of tackling jealousy, I personally listen to relaxing, hypnotic tones created with a brain entrainment program. Moonfish Design have some great tools to help you to meditate and get over your jealousy. I’m a prime example of someone who moved on and improved my life no end and for that I give great thanks to meditation and spirituality.

Try taking 20 minutes out each day where you listen to meditative tracks and feel your worries ebb away, it’s amazing how quickly you start to feel better. I don’t think it’s something you can do for a few weeks and then forget about, rather something which requires a dedicated daily ritual until you go to see your maker. Does that sound like too much work?
