The first step in the skin care regimen is the cleaning of the face. This procedure can easily remove dirt without upsetting the skin protective layers or the natural pH balance. Common soaps and cleansers are often harsh and lead to a dry and irritated skin. That is why for rosacea sufferers it is recommended to use a non-irritating skin cleanser. These cleansers should be soap-free, oil-free and fragrance-free cleansers. A small amount of these cleansers should be applied gently. Than the patients should rinse with plenty of warm water and blot with a soft towel.

The second step for rosacea sufferers in treating their skin problems is medical treatment. This step cen not be skipped because it is the most important and step in managing rosacea. Patients should follow exactly the prescribed treatments. They should apply the prescribed medication in a thin layer over the affected areas and allow it to dry before moisturizing. It is recommended the usage of a sunscreen with a SPF of 15 or higher. In most of the cases you should try several sunscreens before finding a suitable one. Sunscreens should be applied to all exposed areas when patients are outdoors, whether it is summer or winter.

The third step is moisturizing. It was proved that rosacea and other skin conditions can cause problems when the skin is dried. For restoring moisture without causing irritation it is recommended to apply a long-lasting water-based moisturizer in a cream or lotion formulation. It is also recommended for the moisturizer to not contain fragrances or lanolin.

The last phase in this skin care regimen is maintenance. This is done if rosacea sufferers apply this treatment once in the morning and again right before bedtime.
