Did you know it's possible to save as much as half what you would ordinarily spend on hotels for a visit to Rome, just by choosing a different kind of accommodation? Here's how to make your budget stretch farther.

Picking a vacation package that includes short term apartment rentals could pleasantly surprise you with savings. Competitive pricing is available on these furnished vacation units, and getting them with a package can make those prices even better.

Expenses can climb quickly on holiday, especially in the four big areas of travel to the location, travel while you're there, accommodations and eating out. With care, you can reduce all these expenses, however.

Choosing a package that will allow you to create your own custom vacation to Rome may allow you to save a lot. All you need to do is pick out the right options for your group.

One of the largest expenses is air fare, so make sure you check out the available options carefully. The cost of flying has been going up, so sign up for email alerts from the provider of your package to get the best chance of a good deal.

Another place costs add up fast is accommodations during the trip. Since hotels in Rome are known for being overpriced, you may find your bills climbing even as you try to keep costs down.

Short term apartment rentals are a great solution to all your accommodation troubles. They're fully furnished homes, and they have a lot more space and privacy available than hotels, despite generally being lower priced.

Children have a much better time on visits to strange locations when they have more space. A family apartment provides this a lot better than a crowded hotel room, and their parents will enjoy the fact that the apartment also includes private bedrooms, a full kitchen, and a family room.

Of course, if you prefer a smaller space, or are traveling by yourself, you can choose a comfortable studio apartment that costs less than a comparable hotel. In the right area, couples can find studios that offer amazing views and a cozy, romantic atmosphere.

If you're on an extremely tight budget, you can share rooms or a single smaller apartment, for a lower cost than a hotel. You'll also still be getting more out of your apartment than you would from the average hotel since these units have their own kitchens and laundry facilities.

Since most apartment rentals are located in residential communities and are near public transport, you'll have an easier time traveling, too. There's no need to hire a taxi.

You'll eat better and save on food too, by choosing to cook your own meals and sourcing your food from local markets. Save your restaurant budget for some great meals when it really counts, rather than being stuck eating out for every meal.

Anyone who's heading to Rome but doesn't want to spend a lot should choose a travel package that includes an apartment rental. It'll allow you to enjoy yourself without going over your budget.
