Teaching Children To Read And Write

    View:
1. Inspire them. Show your children that writing can be very fun and exciting. Show them letters you have written. If you keep a journal show your children how rewarding and exciting it is to look back through the years in your journal.

2. Writing challenge. One day I challenged my kids to write a 400 word article on any subject they wanted. It was great. They turned the television off a started writing. I told them that I would give the winner for the best article $10. You can try something like this and your children will amaze you.

3. Blog? Blogs are a very popular method for sharing ideas and happenings with friends, family and the internet community. Your children could help with the blog and you can even make money from it. This will give your children a big incentive to write when they realize there is a way to make money.

4. Give your children a notebook. A notebook is a necessity for any good writer so they can quickly jot down ideas as they come. They can also start composing stories in their notebooks that can later be transferred to the computer.

5. Have your kids learn to write thank you notes. You and others give your children many gifts and sometimes it is hard to just get your children to say thank you. Can you imagine the joy that will fill someone's heart if they receive a thank you note from one of your children for a gift or special outing?

6. Write letters. Writing letters is a habit we should all have. You can help you children develop a love for writing by encouraging them to write letters to grandparents and friends. They can even write letters to you complete with postage and an address. I have sent my children mail before and it is very fun.

Teaching children to write first requires that you inspire your kids. Show them how much fun writing can be. Next teach them activities where they can see the many benefits of writing.
Teaching Children To Read And Write
Teaching children to write poetry is simple whether you are a teacher or a parent when approached step by step. The important thing is to show children how to rhyme words and put them together. Here are 6 tips.

1. Word list. At home or at school you can make a list of words that rhyme. Make the words fun for kids like: clown, frown, smile, mile, snail, sail, grand, stand etc. Next have the kids try to make sentences out of a couple of the words.

2. Recite to them. Write some sentences you come up with or select some of the children's and recite them. This way they can hear the words rhyming. Make the sentences fun.

3. Read the Bible. The Bible is written in prose and is the most widely read book in the world. Try reading parts of the Bible and discuss with the children why it rhymes. Have the kids try to imitate some of the verses. The poems do not have to be real.

4. Poems about pets. Try having the children write a poem about their favorite pet. They can also write poems about their grandparents. The point is to help them relate with what they are doing a poem about.

5. Rhyming games. Rhyming games are another method for teaching children to write poetry. Nursery rhymes are some of the first poetry we learn. You can also teach rhythmic patterns by having the children stomp their feet and clap their hands along with the poem. Naturally this is loud but very effective.

6. Music. Listen to music and show how lyrics are similar to poetry set to music. This is particularly effective with older kids. Music is a huge part of our lives and many children and teenagers are aspiring musicians and already have favorite music groups.

Writing poetry is a fun activity and the kids will enjoy it. You need to start with simple rhyming schemes so the students can build confidence. You can use the Bible, games and music to further their understanding.
