Actress and She & Him front woman Zooey Deschanel is adding a new “him” to her circuit in the form of Death Cab for Cutie front man Ben Gibbard, who after a year with the Elf and Yes Man actress popped the question just before the Christmas holiday. Amid speculations that Deschanel is actually engaged to another alt-rocker, AFI frontman Hunter Burgan, the two are basking in their Crosby, Stills and Nash -reminiscent love as they plan on sharing a roof. The two will soon share Deschanel's uber bohemian Los Angeles suburb Hancock Park home, according to the Los Angeles Times music blog, where other hip rockers like Rilo Kiley front woman Jenny Lewis and boyfriend Johnathon Rice reside.
Already an unlikely pair, Deschanel's indie country outfit She & Him may see an even odder addition as Gibbard's style will likely creep its way into the lyrically mature and musically innovative material of the duo. It was a simple connection for the two artists, who met on the set of the film The Go-Getter and bonded over their passion of British songwriter and singer Richard Thompson. It wasn't long before Deschanel's lyrics popped their way into the conversation and Matt Ward, the “him” of She & Him, discussed his talents on the guitar. Moments later, the indie connection was established and the two were on their way to the studio for a single for The Go-Getter. “We did a Richard and Linda Thompson song, and that was one of the first things that was exciting about talking to Matt. We had a lot of the same favorite songs and favorite artists, and we admire people that I don't necessarily bring up in conversations, because most people have no idea what I'm talking about,” Deschanel admitted to http://MTV.com.
Volume One, their debut album, appeared just a few months later with the whispy vocal talents of Deschanel crooning out lyrics about lost loves and broken hearts, while Ward leaps energetically onto the guitar strumming chorus's reminiscent of ‘50s country, ‘60s pop and ‘70s balladry. “My favorite songwriters are mostly people that were writing a lot of music in the ‘60s and ‘70s. People like Carole King and Smokey Robinson. There are oh so many,” Deschanel continued with http://MTV.com. “So I sort of had those as, like, the ultimate songs in the world, in my head. I had those people as the ultimate songwriters, so [the album] was like making a mixtape. Every day, when we were recording, I had, like, a new 80-minute mixtape!” The partners worked mostly via email during their first few months together, tinkering away on the singles individually until they came together in Ward's Portland, Oregon studio to record the first volume in what will become many more.
Volume One was released with Merge Records and as the two every so coyly toured in some small town shows, the volume was raised not only on Deschanel's talents as an actress but also on her skills as a musician. After receiving several 2008 Best Of category lists, Volume Two is in the works as the indie rockers plan on supporting their next work with a little more “umph.” Make sure to check out all the future sounds of these oldie crooners with your own She and Him tickets from http://www.stubhub.com/she-and-him-tickets.
Tickets For New Moon
According to Coach Bielema, Sherer's performance in the game against Iowa was not really that spectacular with nary a touchdown but he liked what he saw. Incidentally, the Badger's lost to Iowa that time.
Though Sherer will be one of the starters for the game with Illinois, there is no assurance that he will do so in the succeeding games. That will be a chance though for him to prove his worth and give Coach Bielema a reason to continue to have him as starter.
Sherer's back-up are Scott Tolzien and Allan Evridge. Tolzien played with the Badgers against Iowa in which was considered as his first for the season. In the meantime, Evridge, a transferee from Kansas State U started the last six games but did not play in the one with Iowa.
The change in the quarterback came just when the Wisconsin Badgers are in a tight position after suffering from four consecutive losses. Bielema is optimistic that with the changes, there might a change also in how their games turn out. He is hopeful that the team will be able to recover and salvage their remaining games for the season.
On that same event, Bielema was asked about a lot of things including his plans to continue donning the Winconsin windbreaker every time there are games. He was also asked if he is being pressured by Barry Alvarez who personally picked him as his replacement when he became the university's athletic director.
Bielema told them that Barry Alvarez' interest in the team will always be there having coached it also for some time. He is always available for any advice and would even be there sometimes for the practices. He also stressed that both he and Alvarez would like the team to win and that he knew that he will always be linked to him when it comes to football. Alvarez was also present during that news conference albeit at the back.
Wisconsin needs to play more consistently. In a game with Michigan they were already 19-0 at halftime but still the Wolverine rallied back to finally win that game. It was a sad state for the Badgers though because from number 8 nationally they dropped to being unranked. Then they had to exert great effort just to win three of their remaining games to qualify for the bowl.
The consecutive losses were at the hands of Michigan Wolverines, Penn State (ranked 3), Ohio (ranked 10) and of course, Iowa. Disappointments were felt by everybody, from the coaching staff to the players. The last games were awful and left everybody feeling downcast. The only thing that can raise the team's spirits would be another win.
The season's start was actually one of the worst for Wisconsin Badgers since the mid-90. They have been outscored. But there is that resolve to win and the quest to win will surely be an interesting one.
