Hypnotherapy is becoming one of the most popular forms of complementary therapy. If you've made the decision that hypnotherapy is the right therapy to help you overcome your problem, you'll need to find a hypnotherapist. But how do you know where to find a hypnotherapist and which hypnotherapist is right for you? Here are some tips to finding the right hypnotherapist for you.

First, ask for a recommendation from someone. We ask people for personal recommendations all the time so hypnotherapy should be no different. A recommendation is often the best way to find a hypnotherapist. Knowing that someone has had a good experience and effective results from a particular hypnotherapist is usually a good indicator. Having this sort of knowledge before your hypnosis session can make you relaxed and confident in your therapist.

If you are unable to get a recommendation use a specialist paper or online directory. These will be able to refer you to a qualified local hypnotherapist.

Once you have found a local hypnotherapists, it is important to remember that they may not specialise in your particular problem. Once you've been given a recommendation, contact the hypnotherapist and ask if they are experienced in treating your issue. If they are not, they may recommend a colleague or other hypnotherapist in the area.

Once you've found a hypnotherapist you should ask them about their membership to one of the professional bodies that self-regulate the profession. Membership to a hypnotherapy association guarantees that your hypnotherapist has undergone appropriate training and has achieved an accredited qualification. Membership also requires the hypnotherapist to have insurance and they will abide by a set code of ethics and conduct for practice. Use an online complementary therapy directory to find a professional hypnotherapy association.

Location of the therapist is an important consideration. You'll need to travel to your hypnotherapist's therapy room so consider your transport options. Ask if there is adequate parking in the area or a train and bus station nearby. The closer the hypnotherapist is to your home or place of work the better.

Consider when you are usually available for a hypnotherapy session and then find out if your hypnotherapist takes appointments during that time. If you can't attend during the day due to work commitments, you'll need a hypnotherapist who can do evening appointments or weekend sessions.

Hypnotherapy costs vary and are dependent on the hypnotherapist's experience, location and overheads. Price is an important consideration and you will probably have a budget in mind when choosing your therapist. Before hypnosis takes place, many hypnotherapists will have an initial consultation session with you to discuss your problem and explain how hypnotherapy can help. The consultation may take place face-to-face or over the phone. This consultation also gives you a chance to ask questions and let the therapist know of any concerns you have about hypnotherapy.

The first consultation may be free or have a nominal charge. Make sure you clarify terms and costs before making an appointment. Importantly, a consultation will give you the opportunity to judge if you can work with the hypnotherapist or not. Building a good rapport with your hypnotherapist is often based on first impressions. The hypnotherapist should be able to make you feel comfortable in discussing your issues.

As with doctors, many people feel more relaxed with a therapist of the same sex. Having confidence to discuss your issues with the hypnotherapist is an important part of your treatment however hypnotherapists are trained to deal with issues that are specific to both sexes. By following these tips and you'll be able to decide on the right hypnotherapist for you.
