Traffic generation is one of the most talked about issues. Most needed, and it's probably the area where people waste the most amount of money. Website traffic will be the life blood of your online business. That means your ability to generate website traffic is essential to your success.

Now, to make it more clear, the only way to make your website more successful and increase your profits, is to receive more TARGETED traffic. Targeted website visitors are seeking, or are looking for the products or services you offer. What you really need are visitors specifically interested in your product or service. We call it targeted traffic.

Here Search Engine Optimization, or SEO, comes into play. It's the process of modifying the structure and the content of your web site so that your web site gets a high position in search engine results. Your aim will be, when a surfer search for a keyword phrase at a search engine, you want your site coming up in the top 10 results.

The more relevant keywords you're using, the more targeted visitors you'll get. If you for example are selling golf clubs and you get a bunch of rubber ducky seeking visitors to your site, it'll not do much for your business.

Search engine traffic is so valuable because visitors search you out, rather than the other way around. Targeted visitors should be the ones you are most concerned to provide what they are looking for, since they are finding your web site due to a proactive search for information relating to what you offer.

The only way to receive targeted traffic long term, is to write and supply useful and interesting content. Try to build relationships to keep them coming back. Use a constant flow of informative content, that your visitors will find useful. Keep your website up to date and add new content on a regular basis.

Now, of course any kind of website traffic is better than no traffic at all. However, in the long run, your site is doomed to fail if you are not getting visitors that are looking for the products, services or information you have available on your site.
