Trust Your Instincts

    View:
These suspicious feelings have many names, instincts, gut feelings, intuition, vibes, or sixth sense. These feelings keep you safe when you obey them. They are an internal warning device. Everybody has instincts. Your ability to hear them and obey them increases with awareness.

Your gut instincts are one of the most powerful tools of self defense and crime prevention. There are many names for instincts, gut feelings, intuition, vibes or sixth sense. If something, some place or someone feels wrong, obey your instincts.

If you are at a party and get bad vibes or you feel uncomfortable about the situation, pay attention to these feelings. These feelings are meant to protect you. Sometimes people worry about feeling irrational. It is okay to feel foolish, overly cautious or even to be wrong, than to allow yourself to be in possible danger. Trust your instincts to tell you if a situation is wrong for you or when or to call the police.

Most people have had these feelings. You know what I'm talking about. Our intuition is warning us and something just doesn't feel right. We then act on these feelings and very often we recall that we were right. And it doesn't always have to do with keeping us out of danger either. It could be a number of different things.

The important thing to be aware of is that we really do have a sort of sixth sense about things. I very firmly believe in the power of our natural instincts to advise and warn us in almost any situation.

We get these intuition messages in different ways. Maybe we are talking to ourselves inside our head or saying words out loud. It may be butterflies in our stomach, a dream we had, or a visual image we just got. Sometimes we get goose bumps, our hair stands on end, or get shivers in our spine. Many times it's a combination of these things.

It is essential to learn to identify and recognize when our intuition is warning us. It is the way we tell ourselves that something is wrong. Dismissing these warning signs can lead to a dangerous situation.

It is important to also accept that we may be wrong but that it is better to be safe than sorry. If you are going through what some people call "analysis paralysis", make the safer choice. Don't just go along with a situation you feel uncomfortable about.

Personal safety includes not just being aware of the warning signs but also taking action if something feels uncomfortable or unsafe. You must act to increase your personal safety.

Of course, your intuition must be combined with obvious common sense safety. For example you shouldn't open your door without first checking who rang the door bell, when walking alone stay where it is well lit and populated, etc.

When you first start to really listen to your instincts, sometimes you are right and sometimes you are wrong. With practice, your instincts will reward you. You will naturally gain a better sense of when to listen to your inner voice.

Acknowledge and support your instinctive wisdom. The costs of dismissing your intuition can be enormous.

If there is only one point that you will take from this article, even if you forget everything else you've just read, remember this ... PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR INSTINCTS. If your instincts are warning you, there IS something wrong. Trust it and ACT to increase your safety.
