What Does Stress Cause

    View:
Stress is everywhere; it is hard to avoid it altogether. Yet some situations and conditions cause a severe bodily reaction. Severe stress can be physical, environment, or emotional. Some common situations that cause the body to take extreme measures to cope with the stress are: severe infections, chronic illnesses, divorce or a relationship break down, major surgery or injury, medications, and starvation diets.

When the body reacts to stress, it acts to protect and maintain the vital organs by pulling back all the energy and nutrients for non-life supporting systems. Hair is not essential to life, so nutrients are taken from the hair and follicles (hair root) to support the heart, brain, and lungs, etc.

Hair has a normal life cycle that looks like this: hair emerges from root or follicle, it grows for two to five years, it rests, and then dies. When the hair is at rest, a new hair begins to grow in the root. Extreme stress or shock causes the body to cut short the growth cycle where nutrients are need, and sends most of the hair to the rest and die cycle. In normal circumstances, our hair is not all in the same stage at the same time.

When our body is reacting to stress, we can lose up to 70% of our hair, because the body has denied the hair nutrients and forced it all to go into a rest and shed stage. The symptoms of stress-related hair loss usually show up between two and three months of the onset of stress.

Good news---stress-related hair loss is temporary. Usually regrowth is complete in six to eight months. While usually no treatment is necessary, it is important to maintain a balanced diet, a regular routine of exercise, and to get plenty of rest.

As a result, your sebaceous glands are negatively affected and sebum is produced. Sebum is a sticky substance and this is how your skin will become oily. Your pores will be clogged by the sebum and acne will be formed on your skin. This is so true because I still remember during an exam in my tertiary education how I was really stressed out. My skin was starting to release sebum and become oily and I can feel that pimples are going to pop out soon because my skin was itchy as well.

Stress is part of our lives and we can't completely avoid it. What we have to do is to deal with it and combat it by improving our way of living like doing exercises, meditating, taking time to relax like having a warm bath, yoga, deep breathing techniques and listening to soothing music.

Also, if you can, go in nature say in the mountain, forest, near the sea or your own terrace where you can breathe fresh air. Early in the morning is best. It's also important to have a good night sleep everyday because people with lack of sleep tend to be nervous quite easily and stressed out fast.

In this hectic life, we tend to rush and hurry everyday to go to work, to school, college or university. What you need to do is always wake up a bit earlier so that you can take more time to do your morning activities. For instance, take your time to prepare a copious breakfast and have the required energy to deal with life demands. Don't get stressed out early in the morning.

So incorporate some anti-stress activities in your daily life and I am sure you will decrease the risk of triggering acne on your skin.
