How does it happen that some people cave in at the first sign of a challenge, and others bounce back and keep on going in spite of apparent failures? Did those who bounce back swallow some magic battery and turn into the quintessential Energizer Bunny?
The true answer is that those who don't have enough fight left in them to stay in the fight, didn't have a good enough reason to be in the fight in the first place. Did you catch that? In other words, their why wasn't big enough.
Those who are knocked down - or knocked clear out of the fight - and who get back up, dust themselves off, and get right back into the ring, are those who have a big why. It was not a game for them when they stepped into the fray. It was serious and they meant business. They made the commitment from the outset that they would "stay the storm" no matter what.
Have a Compelling Reason
The why's or in other words the reasons you want to achieve things is the biggest and most compelling reason you will have to strive towards your goals. If you are starting a business venture that takes a lot of time and energy then in order to keep at it you have to create reasons that resonate with your deepest desires otherwise your commitment, tenacity and determination will easily stall out mid stream.
If you are moving in a new direction and are all excited about the possibilities then you are probably dissatisfied with your current state of affair. If money and vacations are what you covet and you are determined to make things happen to do so your efforts may eventually stall out.
If that is the extent of your "why" (the reason why you will set about to change your life) it's probably not strong enough to sustain you in the tough times. There's nothing wrong with wanting "things." Everyone does. But things get old and soon you're weary of them. As to leisure time, that also gets old. What do you want to do with your leisure time? That's where your why comes into play. There must be a strong sense of purpose.
By knowing what your reasons are and by adapting and changing them you will never lose your 'why' or your purpose for continuing to be successful.
How to Know if Your Why is Big Enough
You may be reading this article because you have started a few online businesses, but when they didn't take off like you thought they should, you quit.
The ups and downs eventually wore you down and you quit trying. Remaining consistently aware of your thoughts and motivation or your 'why' for continuing will help keep you focused and bring your goals to fruition.
If your why isn't big enough to drive you to do something significant with your life, then you probably won't! You may start, but you seldom finish.
Watch for the Signs
There are tell tale signs. If you have any of these characteristics then your reasons for wanting wealth may not be enough to carry through you the battle:
Putting things off Lack of confidence self doubt embarrassment Inability to make decisions Easily confused or taken off track Fear of failing or making an error Lack of motivation Lots of plans, but no ability to implement them UP & down attitude and efforts
In the words of Jim Rohn
"When you know what you want, and want it bad enough, you will find a way to get it."
That quote describes exactly how serious your "why" for doings things should and has to be to succeed.
Excuses Fade Away
Take time today to write down your driving motivation for the changes you want to see happen in your life. Don't put it off. Once you are directly connected to your why, all your excuses will lose their power over you and one by one they will fade away.
