We want to spend all of our time and energy getting to know them better. Before you pick up the phone you should know some of the common mistakes that people make by being overly eager to talk to their date.



DO consider calling your date when you get home to make sure that they have arrived safely. Of course, don't do this if you think it is too early in the relationship to start calling, instead consider sending a text message or even an email to thank them for a good time and make sure they arrived home safely.

DON'T call your date immediately the next day. This may reek of desperation to the other person.

DON'T wait too long to call your date. If you wait too long they may assume that you were not interested and they will write you off and forget about you.

DO keep your first phone conversations short and sweet. If you call up and talk for hours you may appear to be too needy, which is a major turn off to most people.

DO plan what you are going to say before you call. The last thing you want to do is draw a total blank when the person answers the phone on the other end.

DO be wary of someone who calls you very often and wants to talk for long periods of time before really getting to know you. This may be someone who is far too needy for you.

DO be careful when using text messages and emails as they can often be misinterpreted.

DO call if you said you would call, but don't be obsessive about it. Leave one phone message if you get an answering machine and wait for a return call.

DON'T wait around for someone to call. Remember, not all dates work out well and if they did not like you, you don't want to be with them!

As you can see, these are seemingly simple tips when it comes to using the phone, but when we have been on a date with someone and we like them we often throw common sense out of the window and do things that we normally wouldn't. Make sure when you call a date that you keep things simple and light in the beginning and work toward more communication in the manner. It can be difficult to restrain yourself, but remember you want to give the best impression possible!
