"Amid the world’s oldest spruce trees on the shores of Lake Cowichan, lies picturesque Youbou, B.C. Originally settled in 1907 and developed as a logging town in 1913, it draws visitors from all over to its beautiful banks.



Visitors to Youbou can stay at Mom's B & B Youbou, or rent a cabin, chalet, cottage or vacation home. There are wooded campgrounds for tent, tent trailer, RV and 5th wheel camping. If none of those options appeal to you, there is a local motel, a lodge, and a resort.

Local establishments offer great food and drink. The newly renovated Lakeview Neighbourhood Pub is a great place to meet up with friends. The food is terrific, the atmosphere cozy. Rated well by patrons, Youbou Bar And Grill has excellent food and a good, party like feel with live bands. The Lakeview Restaurant serves good family fare. For more fun after dinner, there is a bowling alley and community hall.

Like many parts of British Columbia, Youbou is known for its wooded areas. There are several parks, each one offering something a little different than the other.

Arbutus Park is a place to swim, picnic, and let the kids enjoy the playground. During the summer months, lifeguards are on duty. There are changing facilities, and a wharf.

Spring Beach Recreation Site is wooded park with picnic areas. Sitting on Cowichan Lake, it offers pretty views.

Marble Bay Park is the place for hiking all year round. There are many different trails to explore, including one that takes you to the peak of Bald Mountain.

Price Park’s trails lead to natural beaches and private, peaceful spots.

Carmanah Walbran Provincial Park is not for the feint of heart. It is primitive wilderness with rough trails. If you’re up to the challenge, you will be rewarded. You will travel through a huge expanse of ancient cedars and the world’s biggest spruces. Make this your target destination if you’re into wilderness hiking or camping, but be aware that there are none of the usually park offerings here.

Nantree Park boasts a large adult-sized water slide, waterskiing, tubing and fishing.

Youbou also has an annual summer regatta. The festivities include a parade, dancing, and water sports.

There isn’t a lot of shopping in Youbou, but the Black Kettle Soap Factory offers natural hand-made soap for humans, along with bath soap for dogs. All natural, like everything else in this pretty part of the world. For groceries, beer and spirits there are stores open year round.

Youbou, B.C. is the perfect tourist location. It’s on a lake, has amenities and accommodations, and tons of natural wonder to enjoy.
